Custom Jewelry

Posted by Emma Gregory Boudah on

Hi! This is just a quick post to explain the difference between customizable and custom-made (or bespoke) pieces.

Many jewelry brands feature customizable jewelry where you can engrave an initial or a date or size to fit.  Much rarer is the truly custom-made, one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry. Custom-made means you have a piece that is unique and was made for you alone to exact specifications. For some brands this means trying to sell one of the same 3 ring styles and just adapting the head of the ring to fit whatever diamond or gemstone the customer can afford and convincing the customer that what they have is unique. Naughty naughty.

A true custom-made piece should highlight several aspects of design that refer back to the wearer. This could mean an Art Deco aesthetic, a hidden tiny birthstone and an engraved quote. Or a non-traditional gemstone, a floral design and a rose gold setting. What it requires is spending time getting to know the customer, creating a CAD from scratch, going back and forth to perfect the final design before making it to order. And thats what we love to do at The Jewelry Republic. The most fun we can have is in making a one-of-a-kind engagement ring or pendant where we get to exercise our creativity and get to know our customer. Contact us today to discuss your big idea....

As part of our series on custom-made rings we'll regularly post photos and stories about some of the one-of-a-kind pieces its been our pleasure to be part of making. Stay tuned for the story behind this gorgeous ruby engagement ring in the picture.
